Why Ezekiel 38 Will Precede Daniel 9

By Jack Kelley

“Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.

“Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble” (Daniel 9:24-25).

Dispensationalists believe, with good reason, that there’s one week of years left to fulfill from the promise the angel Gabriel delivered to Daniel near the end of the Babylonian captivity.  We know the prophecy as Daniel’s 70 weeks.  Each week in the prophecy represents 7 years.  69 of these weeks (7 plus 62) had passed when the Messiah presented Himself to Israel as their King on the only day in His life that He did so.  On our calendar it became known as the first Palm Sunday.

In the prophecy 69 weeks equals 483 years (69 x 7).  This is the exact time that had passed since Artaxerxes Longimonus issued his decree giving Nehemiah permission to begin rebuilding Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2:1-10).  (The city had been destroyed when Nebuchadnezzar’s army conquered Judah and took its people captive to Babylon.) Daniel’s prophecy was being fulfilled in specific detail, and Israel’s failure to realize this marked the beginning of the end for them (Luke 19:41-44).

After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed (Daniel 9:26).

The Hebrew word for Anointed One is Messiah.  Four days after He presented Himself to them,  they executed Him, which is what the Hebrew word translated “cut off” means.  Nothing the angel Gabriel had promised to Mary (Luke 1:32-33) had come to pass.  Three days after that He rose again, fulfilling a sign He had promised to the religious leaders to prove His authenticity, the sign of the prophet Jonah (Matt. 12:39-40). He gave them 40 days to recognize the most dramatic fulfillment of a prophetic sign in the history of mankind and accept Him as their Messiah, and when they didn’t He ascended into Heaven, fulfilling another prophecy in the process.

Then I will go back to my place until they admit their guilt.  And they will seek my face; in their misery they will earnestly seek me” (Hosea 5:15)

About 38 years after that the Roman armies destroyed the city and the sanctuary, and for all practical purposes the nation of Israel ceased to exist.  But a few years before that happened, the Jewish leadership of the Christian movement called the Church had become divided over the issue of whether Gentiles who were coming into Christianity had to put themselves under the Law first.  In other words did a Gentile have to become a Jew before becoming a Christian?  The unspoken question that lurked behind it was even more troublesome to them, and that was, “If not, what’s to become of Israel?” They had been taught that the only way to God was through Israel.  Was this being changed?

The Council At Jerusalem

They all came together in Jerusalem, where James, the Lord’s half brother and head of the Church in Jerusalem set them straight. Israel is being temporarily set aside, he told them, while the Lord takes out of the Gentiles a people for Himself. After that He will restore Israel to allow the remnant of mankind one more chance to seek Him (Acts 15:13-18).  Therefore, Gentiles would not be required to convert to Judaism in the process of becoming Christians.

The Greek word translated “take” in Acts 15:14 means to carry away for one’s own purpose and the  one translated “out of” means to remove from a specified time and place.  Before restoring Israel to fellowship with Him, the Lord will take a people for Himself out of the time and place of the Gentiles.  James was describing the rapture of the Church and saying it will precede Daniel’s 70th Week.

Paul, who was at the meeting, confirmed this by saying Israel has been blinded in part until the full number of Gentiles has come in. After that Israel will be saved (Romans 11:25).  As I’ve indicated in previous studies this is another testimony that the rapture of the church will precede Israel’s restoration and redemption.  From these two prophecies we understand that Israel’s rejection of the Messiah did not end the Old Covenant.  It merely interrupted its 490 year post exilic duration 7 years short of its allotted time.  After the Church is gone this seven years has to be completed.

“He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him” (Daniel 9:27).

The final seven years  will begin with a covenant to be signed by the “ruler who will come”, mentioned in Daniel 9:26.  Gabriel said this leader will come from the people who would destroy the city and the sanctuary after the Messiah’s execution.  In the middle of this last seven years He will put an end to sacrifices and offerings by setting up the Abomination of Desolation which kicks off the 3 ½ year Great Tribulation (Matt. 24:15-21).

Put this all together and you can begin to see why I believe the Rapture of the Church will precede the beginning of Daniel’s missing 70th week.  According to these prophecies the church has to be gone before Israel returns to their covenant relationship with the Lord.

And That’s Not All

But my main purpose in reviewing all this with you is to find the answer to one very important question, and here it is.  What event will suddenly cause Israel, currently a predominantly secular  nation, to officially restore their Old Covenant relationship with God? The study of human nature tells us that while people typically fall away from their beliefs gradually, they don’t come back to them the same way.  Usually, some external change or event, often catastrophic in nature, has to take place to snap them back.  And so it will be for Israel.

And remember, it has to be a return to the Old Covenant because they’re seven years short of completing the time God allotted to them, and the only reason they will need a Temple is for the purpose of Old Covenant worship.  If it was the rapture of the Church that gets their attention they’d be motivated to enter a New Covenant relationship rather than return to the Old Covenant. Something else has to happen . And it will.

An unexpected event that will threaten Israel’s very existence is set to take place soon and God will use it to bring them running as a nation to Him, ending a 2000 year estrangement. This event won’t be a protracted one that causes them to slowly conclude that they’re doomed and drive them to their knees in a desperate plea for help.  Rather it will be one orchestrated and executed  by God Himself for the specific purpose of opening spiritual eyes that have been blinded since that first Palm sunday.  It will happen so fast that they won’t realize what has transpired until it’s all over.

God will cause a coalition of enemy forces to strike with out warning in such numbers that it will seem like a cloud has covered the land, and when they do, He will decimate them with torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulphur.  Then He’ll sew such confusion in the ranks that they’ll turn on each other.  When it’s over there will be so many dead bodies that it will take Israel seven months just to bury them all.

Of course the event I’m referring to is the Battle of Ezekiel 38-39. Four times during Ezekiel’s prophecy of this battle God’s objective was made clear.  Ezekiel 38:23, 39:7, 39:22, 39:28 all tell us His goal is to  show His greatness and holiness to Israel and the nations so Israel will know He’s the Lord their God. This is the event that will cause Israel’s national reconciliation with God and kick off the remaining seven years of the Old Covenant.

Today there appears to be a  growing desire among some in Israel for a Temple.  But if you read between the lines you’ll see it’s a nationalistic movement, not a spiritual one.  Advocates are hoping a Temple will underscore their right to the land by demonstrating their historical presence there.  But this movement is by no means reflective of the national mind set. Most people realize the danger in such a thing.

But after the Battle of Ezekiel 38, the demand for a Temple will be a spiritual movement that will represent the great majority of people in Israel. They’ll want to worship the God they’ve rediscovered and Old Covenant worship requires a Temple. It won’t be just a monument to their past but a necessity for their future.  And with the great victory God will have just handed them, who will dare to deny them? Even the coming world leader will appear to be championing their cause, enforcing a covenant that will allow them to build their Temple.  To Israel it will seem like peace has finally come.

One More Time

Sad to say, the Battle of Ezekiel 38 won’t result in a permanent peace for Israel. They’ll discover they’ve been deceived by the very one who they thought to be their champion, bringing about the worst period of persecution the Jewish people have ever known.  And this time when foreign nations are mobilized against them, it won’t be just a regional coalition.  Zechariah 12:3 says all the nations of the world will line up against Israel. This time Israel will know in advance what their fate will likely be and will come crawling to God for help (Hosea 6:1-2).

This time God won’t just use His signature weapons of rain, hail, earthquakes and fire that He can deliver from afar.  Nor will He sow confusion into the enemy’s mind to have them defeat themselves.  This time He’ll fill the sky with the armies of heaven, with His own Son at their head. The Son will slay them all with just the Word of His mouth.  This time they won’t spend multiple months burying the dead.  This time the birds will devour the carcasses (Rev. 19:11-21).

This time will be different because this time it won’t be only the Father they will have recognized.  This time it will be the Son as well (Zech 12:10).  The reconciliation will finally be complete and the Kingdom Age will begin.   You can almost hear the footsteps of the Messiah 09-08-12.

This week on ‘The Hal Lindsey Report’

One of the recurring themes of the last days, as foretold by the Hebrew prophets and confirmed by the Book of Revelation, is the international isolation of Israel. From a Bavarian court to the U.S. State Department, South Africa to Charlotte, North Carolina, we are seeing evidence of this in this week’s headlines. (Well, actually, that’s not exactly true. We don’t read about Israel’s growing isolation in the headlines because the Mainstream Media refuses to report it.)

In fact, the prophet Zechariah says that, eventually, all of the nations of the world will gather together against Israel. They’ll do so over the issue of who controls Jerusalem.

In its 3,000 year history, Jerusalem, which, ironically, means “City of Peace,” has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, and attacked 52 times. Just since the nation’s rebirth in 1948, Jerusalem has felt the impact of four major wars. Why? It has none of the usual assets that cause great cities to rise. It has no seaport, no natural wealth, no particular strategic military value. The ancient trade routes from Egypt to Assyria, Babylon, and Persia ran north and south along the plateau of Jordan, bypassing Jerusalem to the east.

During centuries of occupation by the Muslims, Jerusalem was a dusty, backwater city so unimportant that it never even achieved the status of a regional or provincial capital. Yet, despite 2,000 years of mediocrity and desolation, Jerusalem is now the most contended-for city on the face of the earth.

Ominously, Zechariah predicted that the thought of possessing Jerusalem would so “intoxicate” the nations of the world, that in the last days they would go to war over it. He also described the city as such a “burdensome stone,” that any nation that tried to solve the dilemma would be “cut in pieces.”

The British found themselves charged with settling the Jerusalem question in 1917. Thirty years later, the British Empire fell apart. Jimmy Carter and Anwar Sadat took on the challenge of Jerusalem. One lost his presidency, the other his life. Bill Clinton led the United States into the fray with the Oslo Accords in 1993. George W. Bush and Barack Obama stuck to the plan. Nearly twenty years later, the U.S. economy is in shambles, our military is worn and tattered, our people exhausted and divided, and our foreign policy is in absolute disarray. And Israel, which did not even exist from Zechariah’s day until 64 years ago, is more isolated and hated than ever.

(Don’t believe me? The issue of Jerusalem put the Democrats into such a publicly embarrassing position at their convention this week, that they had to break their own rules to insert a “mention” of Jerusalem into their platform. They then broke their own rules again by ignoring three obviously insufficient voice votes to the contrary to add the word “Jerusalem” by arbitrary decree of the flummoxed convention chairman.)

South Africa’s Trade Ministry recently announced that it will not allow goods manufactured in Judea and Samaria and labeled “Made in Israel,” to be sold in South Africa. Why? Because its leaders say that Judea and Samaria are “occupied” by Israel. They only recognize the “1948 borders as delineated by the United Nations.” Never mind that there are no such thing as “1948 borders… delineated by the United Nations.”

The United States and its 29 partners recently conducted its second “Global Counterterrorism Forum.” It was held in Istanbul, Turkey, and co-chaired by Turkey’s Foreign Minister. Israel was conspicuously absent. Why? Because it wasn’t invited. Again. It’s curious that the nation most targeted by the world’s terrorists — and the one most experienced at combatting that terrorism — is deliberately left out of a forum dealing with terrorism and counterterrorism. Sort of like not inviting the Vatican to a world conference on “How to be a Good Catholic.” Not to say there was no expertise there, however. All of the major nations who are considered state sponsors of terrorism attended. I suppose they want to learn how their potential victims are planning to deal with them.

Even Judaism is finding itself increasingly embattled throughout the world. In Bavaria, a rabbi is facing court charges for performing a circumcision. Despite the fact that male circumcision is a 4,000 year-old practice of Judaism (1,800 years in Germany), it has been banned in hospitals in Austria and Switzerland. Denmark and Norway are considering similar legislation. Even San Francisco tried to ban it. Other nations have already outlawed certain kosher animal-slaughter practices.

Oddly, while many European nations are seeking to ban Judaic and kosher practices, they see nothing wrong with allowing Muslims to establish “Sharia Law courts” to adjudicate civil matters among Muslims. Great Britain has 85 such courts. Though obviously not empowered to enforce a full range of punishments in European nations — yet — Sharia law is an undeniably barbaric system. Beyond the well-known customs of stoning to death homosexuals and those accused of sexual infidelity, cutting off the hands and/or feet of thieves, and “honor killing” one’s own family members if they’ve “disgraced” the family, accepted Sharia Law punishment can still be quite brutal.

In Saudi Arabia, a 39 year-old Egyptian mother of two who got entangled in a business-deal-gone-bad with a Saudi princess, has been sentenced to 2 years in prison and 500 lashes. She is to receive 5 lashes per week for two years. Activists say that she is already a shell of herself and has suffered probably irreparable damage to her body. But, on the positive side, this is Sharia – not Judaic – law and she is, after all, just a woman.

Please forgive the sarcasm. If it weren’t so brutally pathetic and true, what passes for worldly wisdom is like a bad script for a “Dumb and Dumber” movie sequel.

Folks, even if these events didn’t fit in to so many of the prophets’ descriptions of the last days, the fact that they perfectly embody the Apostle Paul‘s prediction that in the last days man would not be able to think even in his own best interest, should be enough to let us know we’re there.

And in the days to come, we will see Israel and the Jews isolated more and more by the nations of the world. Until one day, they will stand absolutely alone against the world. Only the Messiah will be on their side. But that will be enough.

Please, make plans not to be here for that moment. Accept the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ and make your reservation for the great escape that will save all believers from those dreadful days.

Will America Forsake Israel?

http://frontpagemag.com

The Israel-Iran countdown has begun and with respect to Tehran’s nuclear race we are witnessing the greatest crisis in the US-Israel relations. Will America help the tiny Jewish State? Can Israel trust the word of a US administration that has treated Jerusalem like a banana republic?

A few days ago, Israeli officials told the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper that “the US’ stance is pushing the Iranians to become a country at the brink of nuclear capability.”

Very few people in Israel believe that the US will ever launch another preemptive war against the ayatollahs. The US, especially if Barack Obama gets the re-election, will be tempted to reach a compromise with the Iranians.

Israel is dependent on the US for economic, military and diplomatic support. American taxpayers fund 20-25% of Israel’s defense budget, with the Jewish State being the largest recipient by far of American aid since World War II.

Israel is required to use a portion of US aid to buy from the US defense establishment, but no other country — certainly not any European one — provides the weapons needed to protect Israeli lives. Moreover, the United States has cast 40 vetoes to protect Israel in the UN Security Council.

There is a quid pro quo for such support, but also a limit to what even that degree of dependence can buy. The current Iranian nuclear race made it very clear. And it made clear that the US can forsake, again, the Israelis.

Washington doesn’t support Israel because of the Jewish State’s democracy, the Holocaust or its respect for human rights. Israel’s strategic value has always been the primary motivation for US support.

But it can change tomorrow, especially if Israel’s survival becomes a burden for Washington (France has been Israel’s most important ally after the war, but Paris suddenly abandoned the Jews for the Arab world). Israel must remember that she is America’s ally and client, not “friend.”

The first US presidents after Israel was established — Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson — gave nothing to the Jewish State. And we were in a time when the ashes of Auschwitz were still warm, while today the memory of the Holocaust is fading.

Truman maintained a US embargo against arms sales to the Israeli and Arabs, which was effective only against Israel. In 1948, it was US pressure which forced Israel to withdraw from the Sinai where Israeli forces were pursuing the defeated Egyptians.

In 1960 the Nazi officer Adolf Eichmann was apprehended by Israeli agents in Argentina and flown to Jerusalem for trial. Argentina turned to the UN Security Council, asking it to condemn Israel and order Eichmann’s return. Washington intended to support the Argentinean complaint and only the furious reaction of Israel’s foreign minister, Golda Meir, dissuaded Washington to do that.

Prior to the Six Day War, Abba Eban approached Lyndon Johnson and all he got was an arms embargo on the Middle East. In 1970, at the height of the “War of Attrition,” the US turned down an urgent Israeli request for security assistance.

In 1992 the Bush-Baker Administration humiliated the Israelis by an ultimatum: “Settlements or loan guarantees” (the latter Israeli general and minister Rehavam Ze’evi dismissed Bush senior as being “anti-Semitic”). The US post-Gulf War’s settlement included American efforts to dislodge Israel from the territories by endangering Israel’s security and claim to the land. The former editor of The New York Times, A.M. Rosenthal, wrote that “the Bush administration has a spiritual affinity for Arab rulers and oilmen, but bares its teeth when Jerusalem shows independence.”

Bill Clinton’s appeasement has been a tragedy for the Jewish people, since he pushed the Oslo process along and encouraged its implementation, bearing a historic responsibility for the Intifada’s bloodshed, in which 2000 Israelis paid with their lives.

In 1981 the Jewish State bombed the Iraqi reactor of Osirak. Recent files released by the UK National Archives show that Britain’s ambassador to Washington, Sir Nicholas Henderson, was with US Defence Secretary Caspar Weinberger as the news came in. “Weinberger says that he thinks Begin must have taken leave of his senses.

He is much disturbed by the Israeli reaction and possible consequences,” Nicholas cabled London. Alexander Haig was secretary of state then. “I argued,” he recalled, “that while some action must be taken to show American disapproval, our strategic interests would not be served by policies that humiliated and weakened Israel.”

Those who remember Ronald Reagan as friendly to Israel may be startled to recall the vehemence of his reaction against Israel. The Reagan administration’s immediate response was to impose sanctions on the Jewish State and Reagan suspended the delivery of F-16 fighters doing something even Jimmy Carter refused to do: use arms supplies as leverage against Israel. Washington has also armed Israel’s western neighbor to the teeth. The Egyptian army is now infinitely more modern then when the Egyptians carried out their successful initial attack against Israel in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

Can we forget the US treatment of Jonathan Pollard, the only American to receive a life sentence for spying for an ally? Despite the fact that nobody has given one specific example of how Pollard hurt the US, the Israeli is still being held in solitary confinement in an underground cell.

Pollard has been in prison longer than anyone ever sentenced in the US for passing classified materials to a friendly foreign power (the median sentence for someone spying for a non-Soviet power has been less than three years). For his contribution to Israel’s security and for his long suffering in prison, Pollard is an Israeli hero.

He is the source of the Israeli preparedness for the Iraqi missile attacks during the Gulf War, when Saddam’s rockets began to rain down on Tel Aviv, and Israelis wore gas masks. Pollard warned Israel of Iraq’s bellicose intentions, and that Syria’s Assad was amassing quantities of chemical weapons. By its own agreement with Israel, the US should have given this information to Jerusalem. But it was deliberately blocked by Weinberger.

Today Israel can stand tall in the face of its important ally because it never asked American soldiers to spill their blood for its defense. It’s Washington that must beg for Israel’s alliance and protect the Jews, as it cannot afford disengagement from the only democracy in a region dominated by Islam.

Will the US eventually be compelled to sacrifice Israel on the altar of “realism” and oil price, when Iran’s knife will descend on the Jews? And will the Jewish State’s leadership dutifully bind Israel on the altar?

As Charles Krauthammer spelled it out, “for Israel the stakes are somewhat higher: the very existence of a vibrant nation and its 6 million Jews.” If Israel won’t be able to change the US’s red line on Iran and Jerusalem capitulates to Washington’s appeasement, the Iranians’ ghoulish utopia will be soon armed with atomic bombs.

And the Jews? They will be psychologically weaker and totally dependant on others’ help. Like it was before and during the Holocaust.

Iran can build an N-bomb by Oct. 1. Cairo coup hampers Israeli action

DEBKAfile Exclusive Report August 13, 2012, 9:53 AM (GMT+02:00)

Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak visit scene of terrorist Sinai attack
Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak visit scene of terrorist Sinai attack

At its present rate of enrichment, Iran will have 250 kilograms of 20-percent grade uranium, exactly enough to build its first nuclear bomb, in roughly six weeks, and two-to- four bombs by early 2013, DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources report. Hence the leak by an unnamed Israeli security source Sunday, Aug. 12, disclosing Iran’s progress in developing the detonator and fuses for a nuclear warhead which can be fitted onto Shehab-3 ballistic missiles capable of reaching Israel.
Since 20 percent refined uranium is a short jump to weapons grade fuel, Iran will have the capability and materials for building an operational nuclear bomb by approximately October 1.
This knowledge is not news to US President Barack Obama, Saudi King Abdullah, Syrian ruler Bashar Assad, or Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu – and certainly not to Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.  Netanyahu’s comment at the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday: “All threats against the home front are dwarfed by one – Iran must not be allowed to have nuclear arms!” – was prompted by that deadline.
Ex-Prime Minister Ehud Olmert did not have that information when he “assured” Tel Aviv students Sunday, “Iran’s nuclear program has not reached the threshold necessitating Israeli action now or in the near future.” He further claimed that Israel’s “defense leaders” don’t subscribe to the view that “action now is unavoidable.” Olmert, who stepped down under a cloud of suspected corruption in 2009, has not since then had access to regular intelligence briefings on Iran. So either he spoke out of ignorance or willfully joined an opposition chorus of voices speaking out against Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

The fact is that when Olmert approved the Israeli strike for destroying a nuclear reactor under construction by Iran and North Korea in northern Syria in September 2007,  Iran was years away from accumulating enough enriched uranium and the capability to build nuclear warheads.
Both are now within Tehran’s grasp in weeks.

Leading an opposition campaign to bring down the incumbent government is legitimate. Discrediting belated Israeli action to pre-empt a nuclear Iran as fodder for that campaign is not.  If what Olmert and Barack (the same defense minister as today) did in 2007 was necessary then, action now for delaying Iran’s imminent “breakout” to a bomb is many times more necessary and far more urgent.
However Netanyahu and Barak have put themselves in a straitjacket by two lapses:

1.  By foot-dragging on their decision for two years, they have led their opponents at home and in Washington – and Khamenei’s office too – to believe that, by turning on the heat, they can hold Israel back from military action against Iran’s nuclear program until it is too late. The time has been used not just for Iranian nuclear progress, but to enlist ex-politicians and retired generals at home and add them to the voices, especially in the White House, which believe Israel can learn to live with a nuclear-armed Iran.
2.  Netanyahu and Barak have behaved as though a decision on Iran is in their exclusive province, insulated from the turmoil and change swirling through Israel’s Arab neighbors in the past two years.
But the Middle East has a way of catching up with and rushing past slow-moving politicians:
Sunday, at 10:00 a.m. Netanyahu warned his ministers that no threat was worse than a nuclear Iran. At 17:55 p.m., Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi dropped a bombshell in Cairo. In one fell swoop, he smashed the Egyptian military clique ruling the country for decades, sacked the Supreme Military Council running Egypt since March 2011 and cut the generals off from their business empire by appropriating the defense ministry and military industry.
That fateful eight hours-less-five-minutes have forced Israel’s leaders to take a second look at their plans for Iran.
Morsi’s lightning decisions were the finishing touches that proved the Islamist Bedouin terror attacks in Sinai of Aug. 5 fitted neatly into a secret master plan hatched by Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood to seize full control of rule in Cairo – a plan DEBKAfile first revealed exclusively last Friday, Aug. 10.
Netanyahu now faces one of the hardest dilemmas of his political career – whether to go forward with the Iran operation, which calls for mustering all Israel’s military and defense capabilities – especially for the repercussions, after being suddenly confronted with unforeseen security challenges on its southwestern border, for thirty years a frontier of peace.

The exceptional talents of Netanyahu and Barak to put off strategic decisions until they are overtaken by events has landed Israel in an especially perilous plight, surrounded now by a soon-to-be nuclear-armed Iran from the east;  threatened Syrian chemical warfare from the north and the Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Egypt to its south.

Bill calls for Jewish prayer times on Temple Mount

The Jerusalem Post

08/12/2012 14:51

Separate prayer times would be held for Jews and Muslims, with overlap for Christians at Jerusalem holy site.

On the heels of a US State Department report criticizing Israel for not allowing non-Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount, MK Arieh Eldad (National Union) has drafted a bill mandating separate hours for Jews and Muslims to pray at the holy site.

“The Temple Mount is the holiest place for the Jewish People, where the First and Second Temple stood,” Eldad explained. “It is also a holy place for Muslims, and is the site of the Aksa Mosque. It also has a special status in Christianity.” As such, the National Union MK seeks to anchor in legislation for freedom of worship at the Temple Mount for all three religions.

The bill, which has yet to be officially submitted because the Knesset is on an extended summer recess, states that the site must be open to Jews every day, except for Friday, the Muslim holy day, and on other Muslim holidays. It would be open to Muslims every day except for Saturdays and Jewish holidays.

Jews would be allowed to worship on the Temple Mount from 8-11 a.m., 2-6 p.m. and 9-11 p.m. Muslims could pray at the site from 4-7 a.m., 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.

Christian and other tourists’ visiting hours would overlap with some of the Jewish and Muslim hours.

If Muslim and Jewish holidays fall on the same day, the bill calls for the Religious Services Ministry to establish a special schedule.

The US State Department’s International Religious Freedom Report was released to Congress and the public two weeks ago.

The report points out that all non-Muslims are denied opportunities to worship at the Temple Mount, for security concerns.

Are Christian Zionists racists?

Dr. David R. ReaganBy Dr. David R. Reagan
Founder & Director, Lamb & Lion Ministries
Let’s begin with some definitions. Eschatology is the branch of theology that relates to end time prophecies and events. Chutzpah is a Hebrew word that can be translated as nerve, gall, or audacity. When an English-speaking person uses the word, chutzpah, he normally does so to emphasize that a particular statement or action is especially outrageous. So, “Eschatological Chutzpah” refers to a statement about end time prophecy that is characterized by unmitigated audacity.

Dispensationalism Defined

To understand and appreciate two such statements I have in mind, one further definition is required — the definition of Dispensationalism. This term, as it applies to end time prophecy, refers to those who are Premillennial in viewpoint and who believe in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture. They also believe that the Jews are still the Chosen People of God and that one day, at the end of the Tribulation, a great remnant of them will accept Yeshua (Jesus) as their Messiah.

Dispensationalists are very careful to keep God’s promises to the Jews separate from the promises He has made to the Church. And they adamantly reject the anti-Jewish viewpoint that has dominated Christendom for 2,000 years, called Replacement Theology. It is the unbiblical idea that God has washed His hands of the Jews and has no purpose left for them because they rejected Jesus as their Messiah.

Dispensationalists point to Romans 3:1-4 and Romans 9-11 as proof positive that God still loves the Jewish people and that He still has a purpose for them. They totally reject the idea that the promises God made to the Jews have been transferred to the Church.

Dispensationalists also believe that the numerous prophecies in the Old Testament about an end time regathering of the Jews to their homeland and the re-establishment of their state are being fulfilled in Israel today. Accordingly, Dispensationalists are often referred to as “Christian Zionists” since they are the staunchest defenders of the Jewish state in all of Christendom today.

Chutzpah Example #1

Now, with this background, let’s proceed to two incredible examples of Eschatological Chutzpah that I want to share with you.

On July 12th, Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute, interviewed Dr. Gary Burge on his radio program called “The Bible Answer Man.” Dr. Burge is a professor of theology at Wheaton College.

Dr. Burge is also the most outspoken American Christian critic of Israel and supporter of the Palestinians. He has helped organize conferences held within the Palestinian Authority where Jew haters have spewed their contempt of the Jews and Israel, have denounced the Jewish claim on the land, and have expressed their unqualified support of the cut-throat, blood-thirsty leaders of the Palestinian Movement, including Yasser Arafat, who was the world’s leading terrorist.

The first example of Eschatological Chutzpah on this program occurred when Hank Hanegraaff began with a preamble in which he condemned Christian Zionists for being “racist” and supporting “ethnic cleansing.” Absolutely incredible!

Who are the real racists in the Middle East who are intent on ethnic-cleansing? They are the Arab Muslims whom Hanegraaff and Burge so enthusiastically support. There are over one million Arabs living within the Jewish state, all of whom have complete democratic rights. Not one Jew is allowed to live in the surrounding Arab nations. And who is intent on killing whom? It is not the Jews who are committing acts of terror against innocent civilians. It is not Jews who are daily shooting rockets into Arab countries. It is not the Jews who are teaching their children in their schools to hate and kill Arabs.

As I have often put it: “The situation in the Middle East can be summed up very simply in this observation: If the Arabs were to disarm, there would be peace; but if the Jews were to disarm, Israel would cease to exist.”

Chutzpah Example #2

The second example of Eschatological Chutzpah in this off-the-wall radio conversation was Gary Burge’s contention that Dispensationalists are the true anti-Semites! How he could deliver that line with a straight face is beyond my comprehension.

His explanation of this absurd accusation was based on the fact that Dispensationalists teach the Church will be raptured out of this world before the Tribulation begins while the Jews will be left behind to suffer the wrath of God (together with unsaved Gentiles), and that two-thirds of the Jews will die in the process (together with one-half of the Gentiles).

How can this teaching be considered anti-Semitic when it comes straight out of the Scriptures? (See, for example, Zechariah 13:7-9.) The Bible teaches very specifically that in the end times God will regather the Jews back to their homeland and re-establish their state (Isaiah 11:10-12 and Ezekiel 37:1-22). God will then bring all the nations of the world against the Jewish state (Zechariah 12:1-3), not because He hates the Jews, but because He loves them (Malachi 3:1-4). He wants to bring them to the end of themselves and put them in a position where they will have no one to turn to except Him. At that point, the Father will send Jesus back, and when the Jewish people see Him returning in majesty, they will repent and accept Him as their Messiah, to the everlasting glory of God (Zechariah 12:10).

And so you have it — a perfect example of Eschatological Chutzpah. Just think about it: two anti-Semitic proponents of the Islamic enemies of Israel calling the greatest supporters of Israel, “anti-Semitic.” Now, that’s the definition of chutzpah!

Egyptian Cleric: People Thirst for Jews’ Blood

Sallah Sultan on Hamas TV: Israel used girls with AIDS to seduce young Egyptians and infect them.

Hamas’s Al Aqsa TV has aired sermons by an Egyptian cleric in which he says that people he meets everywhere “thirst for the blood of the Jews.” The video was monitored and translated by MEMRI.

The sermons by cleric Sallah Sultan, who founded the Ohio-based American Center for Islamic Research, were aired on July 27 and August 3.

“I travel all over the world,” he says, “and I met supporters of Al-Aqsa, of the prisoners, of Jerusalem, and of Palestine – people who thirst for the blood of the Jews, and who are eager for the promised war against the sons of Zion, until Palestine is liberated in its entirety.”

Sultan goes on to say that “Under the previous [Egyptian] regime over 30,000 Zionists entered Egypt every month, defiling its land. The Egyptian police were forced to protect them, while they were getting drunk and picking fights.”

“There was a great scandal, when [alleged Israeli spy] Misrati and some Jews entered Egypt, in order to commit all kinds of crimes here: counterfeit dollars, takingphotographs of military bases, girls with AIDS seducing young Egyptians in order to infect them, and the vilest act of all – for the price of one Egyptian pound Misrati and his gang would seduce young Egyptian boys from Cairo, Alexandria and Upper Egypt. They took young children who did not know any better and sodomized them.”

In 2010, Sultan accused Zionists of making Pesach matzas from the blood of Christian children. In 2011, he declared that a 1994 edict that called for the murder of “every Zionist who enters Egypt – tourist or not” would be renewed.
