15 Signs That The Ring Of Fire Is Waking Up As We Head Into 2013

15 Signs That The Ring Of Fire Is Waking Up As We Head Into 2013

Ring Of FireWhile most of the world has been focused on other things, the Ring of Fire has been quietly waking up.  Over the past couple of months, there has been a steady string of noteworthy volcanic eruptions and earthquakes that have occurred along the perimeter of the Pacific Ocean.  But because none of them have happened near a highly populated area, we really haven’t heard much about them in the news.  But if activity along the Ring of Fire continues to increase, it is inevitable that a major event will happen near a major city at some point.  When that happens, the entire world will be focused on the Ring of Fire once again.  Most people don’t realize that approximately 90 percent of all earthquakes and approximately 75 percent of all volcanic eruptions occur along the Ring of Fire.  The entire west coast of the United States sits along the Ring of Fire and a massive network of faults runs underneath California, Oregon and Washington.  Fortunately, the west coast has not experienced any devastating seismic events in recent years, but scientists assure us that will change at some point.  So it is important to sit up and take notice when there are reports of increasing activity along the Ring of Fire.

Unfortunately, most Americans cannot even tell you what the Ring of Fire is.  The following is how Wikipedia defines the “Ring of Fire”…

The Pacific Ring of Fire (or sometimes just the Ring of Fire) is an area where large numbers of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. In a 40,000 km (25,000 mi) horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and/or plate movements.

It runs roughly along the rim of the Pacific Ocean.  Coastal residents of four different continents realize that a major event along the Ring of Fire could fundamentally change their lives in a single moment.

Nearly all of the worst earthquakes in modern history have occurred along the Ring of Fire.  When the Ring of Fire is very active, it is a very big deal.  That is why so many people are alarmed that the Ring of Fire seems to be entering a period of increased activity.

The following are 15 signs that the Ring of Fire is waking up as we head into 2013…

#1 Mount Lokon, which is located in Indonesia, has erupted more than 800 times since July.  On Monday, volcanic ash from the volcano reached heights of up to 10,000 feet.

#2 An “orange alert” had been issued for towns and villages near the Tungurahua volcano in Ecuador.  On Tuesday it erupted and shot lava up to a half mile above its crater.

#3 Lava is still flowing out of the Tolbachik volcano which is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula.  Anyone that has ever played the board game “Risk” knows where Kamchatka is located.

#4 Lava also continues to flow and ash also continues to rise from the Fuego volcano in Guatemala.

#5 On Tuesday, an ash plume more than 2.5 kilometers high had risen from the Paluweh volcano in Indonesia.

#6 There was an average of about 4 seismic events per hour at the Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico on Tuesday.

#7 Scientists recently discovered “one of the world’s weirdest volcanoes” on the floor of the ocean just off the coast of Baja, Mexico.

#8 Mt. Fuji (located not too far from Tokyo, Japan) has been dormant for about 300 years, but in recent months there have been increasing signs of activity there.  One study recently found that a “magma chamber under the mountain has come under immense pressure“, and one prominent scientist is warning that Mt. Fuji is due for “a big-scale explosive eruption“.  Authorities were alarmed when a tunnel leading to Mt. Fuji collapsed on December 2nd, killing 9 people.

#9 Scientists are now warning that there is a very dangerous build up of magma at a large number of Japan’s 110 active volcanoes.

#10 A magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia on Monday.

#11 A magnitude-6.0 earthquake hit the New Britain region of Papua New Guinea on Saturday.

#12 A magnitude-6.5 earthquake struck the Gulf of Alaska in mid-November.

#13 A magnitude-7.3 earthquake hit Japan earlier this month.

#14 There has been a substantial increase in earthquake activity in the Long Valley caldera region of California, and authorities tell us that “magma is indeed moving down there“.

#15 Over one recent five week period, more than 170 significant earthquakes were detected in one town in Chile.  That town is now being called “one of the shakiest places on earth”.

All of those events occurred along the Ring of Fire.

So why is all of this happening?

Well, there are certainly a lot of theories out there.

In the United States, a large percentage of the population is convinced that an increase in natural disasters is evidence that we are in the “last days” described in the Bible.  In fact, one recent survey found that a whopping 36 percent of all Americans believe that the increase in natural disasters that we have seen in recent years is an indication that we are in the end times…

More than a third of Americans believe the severity of recent natural disasters is evidence that we are in the “end times” described in the New Testament — a period of turmoil preceding Jesus’ Second Coming and the end of the world.

“There is a significant proportion of Americans who see these phenomena through a theological lens,” said Daniel Cox, research director at the Public Religion Research Institute, which released a poll on religion and climate change on Thursday (Dec. 13) in partnership with Religion News Service.

“It’s hardly a fringe belief. It’s nearly four in 10 Americans who are embracing this,” Cox said.

The conviction is particularly strong among white evangelical Protestants (65 percent), and less common among Catholics (21 percent) and the religiously unaffiliated (15 percent).

Other Americans believe that there are other causes for all of these natural disasters, and a large number of Americans are absolutely convinced that nothing unusual is happening at all.

So what do you think?  Please feel free to post a comment with your thoughts below…

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica | Wed Sep 5, 2012 12:23pm EDT

(Reuters) – A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Costa Rica on Wednesday, rattling buildings, cutting power in areas of the capital and triggering a tsunami warning.

Residents of San Jose said phones went down, electricity poles rattled on the streets and water flowed out of pools during the quake, but the Red Cross said no casualties had been reported so far.

“It was terrible. I was on the third floor, I had never felt anything like it,” said Stephanie Gonzalez, a 25-year-old masters student in the capital.

The quake’s epicenter was in western Costa Rica about 87 miles from San Jose, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, and it was felt as far away as Managua, the capital of neighboring Nicaragua.

“People are very frightened and staying in their homes,” said Eliecer Gonzalez, commercial director of a local newspaper in the Guanacaste region on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast. “We are very isolated and have no power.”

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for Pacific coastlines of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. It had earlier warned of tsunamis for as far afield as Mexico and Peru.

It was the biggest earthquake in Costa Rica since a 7.6 quake in 1991 left 47 dead. More recently, 40 people died in a 6.1 magnitude quake in January 2009.

Pumice float traced to eruption of previously dormant Havre volcano: Pacific quake swarm awakened volcano

August 13, 2012 – WELLINGTON, New Zealand – A swarm of more than 150 earthquakes over two days last month caused a previously dormant volcano to erupt beneath the Pacific Ocean, a scientist said Monday. The eruption of the Havre Volcano, about halfway between New Zealand and Tonga, is believed to have caused a floating island of pumice larger than 4,000 square miles that was encountered by a New Zealand navy ship last week. Cornel de Ronde, principal scientist of New Zealand’s Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, told Radio New Zealand the source of the pumice had been identified in cooperation with French researchers in Tahiti who monitor earthquakes in the southwest Pacific. “When they looked at their physical records they saw that on July 17th and 18th, there were some 157 earthquakes of magnitudes between 3.0 and 4.8,” he said. De Ronde said they occurred near the time of the first sighting of the pumice ‘raft.’ When the institute looked at its database, it found the Havre volcano, which it had previously surveyed. It was a caldera volcano, like White Island off the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, which erupted last week, but the Havre was not thought to have erupted before, he said. De Ronde said the pumice island was so light that it had floated several hundred kilometers from the volcano when it was encountered by the HMNZS Canterbury, which took samples last week. Scientists were also analyzing samples of rock ejected from Mount Tongariro, on New Zealand’s North Island, to try to find out why it erupted a week ago for the first time in 115 years. –Sac Bee

Disease alert as Philippines flood death toll jumps to 89

August 12, 2012 – MANILA – Emergency relief officials and doctors deployed to flood devastated communities in the Philippines Sunday to prevent outbreaks of disease as the death toll jumped to 89. The flooding that submerged 80 percent of Manila early in the week has largely subsided but more than 150 towns and cities around the capital remain under water, affecting more than three million people. Amid the ongoing relief operation, the weather bureau warned of a low pressure area developing some 850 kilometers (528 miles) to the east in the Pacific Ocean that could turn into a storm and bring more rain. Many provinces around Manila remained inundated as overflowing dams continued to release water, the national disaster coordinating agency said. Relief workers were dealing with “clogged pipelines and trash everywhere. Sanitation has emerged as a key problem,” Red Cross secretary general Gwendolyn Pang told AFP. “We have deployed health officers in evacuation centers and in flood-hit communities with the likelihood of diseases erupting.” The health department said water purification tablets were being distributed, while mass immunizations were being carried out to prevent an outbreak of diseases such as flu. Of particular concern is a possible outbreak of leptospirosis, caused by exposure to water contaminated by rat urine, which infected 3,300 people and claimed some 250 lives in the aftermath of similar flooding in 2009. “Many may have escaped the floods, but many could still die from leptospirosis or other diseases,” Ramos said. The Red Cross put up huge rubber bladder tanks for clean water, while local officials sent portable latrines to packed evacuation centers. Food packs were also rushed to some 770,000 people displaced by flooding. Civil defense chief Benito Ramos said more than half of them were living in dire conditions in 948 evacuation centers — mostly schools and churches converted into temporary shelter areas. But in a town north of Manila, at least one family had set up camp on top of elevated tombs at a cemetery as they waited for aid, illustrating the extent of the crisis. In all, more than three million people in 167 towns and 16 cities were affected by the heavy rains and floods, the disaster agency said. –Physics

How The US Fleet Would Defend Itself Against A Full-On Attack

AMDR

Raytheon

As the Navy directs its attention, and the majority of its fleet, to distant parts of the Pacific, concern about ship’s safety becomes paramount.

America’s ships are getting expensive and the thought of a well placed missile sending one or more of them to the bottom of the ocean has surely caused more than one military planner a restless night.

To help keep that from happening Raytheon has produced an elaborate Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) system for the Navy.

The AMDR uses a two bands of radar to asses incoming threats, determine the priority in which they need to be addressed, neutralizes the threat, and keeps monitoring the site to make sure the target is down and out.

Raytheon released an animated video, via their website, that illustrates the AMDR’s capabilities and how the design could protect the fleet, even in the face of a multi-pronged attack.

The following is a series of screenshots from the video, and a description of what the radar targeting system is doing at various points its counterattack.

Dangerous levels of Fukushima radiation headed for West Coast, say scientists

Posted by  on July 25, 2012

In the immediate wake of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster that occurred in Japan last year, radioactive releases of epic proportions flooded the waters of thePacific Ocean, where they now flow adrift. And even though more than a year has passed since the time of the first releases, some scientists believe the worst is yet to come as these water-borne radioactive plumes head for the U.S. West Coast.

Russia Today (RT) reports that a team of scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration‘s (NOAA) Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory recently constructed some models designed to assess the impact of Fukushima radiation over the longer term. To do this, they simulated ocean currents in the Pacific, and evaluated how radiation would both disperse and travel.

They discovered that, within the next few years, the worst of Fukushima’s radiation releases will make its way across the Pacific and hit the American coastline. So-called “packets” of radiation are also expected to continue forming as the larger plumes travel via the ocean currents, which could result in highly radioactive waves of ocean water striking West Coast beaches in the very near future.

“Within one year, it will have spread over the entire western half of the North Pacific, and in five years we predict it will reach the U.S. West Coast,” says Claus Boning, co-author of the study, about the Fukushima radiation releases. “The levels of radiation that hit the U.S. coast will be small relative to the levels released by Fukushima. But we cannot accurately estimate what those levels will be because we do not know for certain what was released by Fukushima.”

Leaked – Fukushima clean-up crews covered up true radiation readings

And the world may never know just how much radiation was, and potentially continues to be, released by Fukushima, as a recently leaked recording verifies that Fukushima plant workers were encouraged to lie about radiation readings at the plant. According to RT, clean-up workers were given lead boxes which they were told to use as “shields” to block radiation readings in order to make them appear lower than they really were.

This obviously insinuates that radiation readings were far higher at the Fukushima plant than the world was told they were, and that these levels more than likely far exceeded the maximum exposure levels considered to be safe for plant workers. The company accused of the cover-up, Build-up, later admitted that workers were encouraged to wear these deceptive radiation shields.

Radiation readings at Reactor 1 reach record levels

The situation at the Fukushima plant itself appears to still be highly problematic as well, as reports indicate that radiation levels at Reactor 1, the fuel rod of which sustained 70 percent damage as a result of the disaster, are the highest they have ever been. According to the Tokyo Electric Power Company(TEPCO), which owns the Fukushima plant, levels of radiation at Reactor 1 reached 10 times higher than levels recorded at Reactors 2 and 3.

“Workers cannot enter the site and we must use robots for the demolition,” said TEPCO officials about the severity of the situation. According to reports, levels of radiation in the basement water of Reactor 1 reached 10,300 millisieverts per hour (mSv/hr), which is the equivalent of receiving the maximum annual dose of radiation in just 20 seconds, or enough to become gravely ill in just a few minutes.

It’s been over a year since natural disaster ravaged a nuclear plant in Fukushima and interrupted the lives of millions of Japanese. Scientists now fear though that contaminated water is on course to America, and it could be more toxic than thought.

Researchers have released the findings of an intense study into the aftermath of last year’s Fukushima nuclear disaster and warn that the United States isn’t exactly spared just yet. In fact, scientists now fear that incredibly contaminated ocean waters could be reaching the West Coast of the US in a matter of only five years, and the toxicity of those waves could eventually be worse than what was seen in Japan.

A team of scientists led by Joke F Lübbecke of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory have published the findings of an experiment recently conducted to measure the impact of last year’s nuclear disaster and the results are eye-opening to say the least. By simulating the spreading of contaminated ocean waters and seeing how currents could carry them across the Pacific from Japan to the US, scientists believe that the worst might be still on the way.

“Within one year it will have spread over the entire western half of the North Pacific and in five years we predict it will reach the US West Coast.” Claus Böning, co-author of the study, tells the website Environmentalresearchweb.

Böning adds that “The levels of radiation that hit the US coast will be small relative to the levels released by Fukushima,” yet fails to exactly stand by that statement in the fullest. “But we cannot estimate accurately what those levels will be because we do not know for certain what was released by Fukushima,” the doctor adds.

In fact, others fear that contaminated ocean waters may collect in packets and produce waves of highly concentrated nuclear toxins that could pose a dangerous toll to Americans.

The paper itself reads, “After 10 years the concentrations become nearly homogeneous over the whole Pacific, with higher values in the east, extending along the North American coast with a maximum (~1 × 10−4) off Baja California.”

“The magnitude of additional peak radioactivity should drop to values comparable to the pre-Fukushima levels after 6–9 years (i.e. total peak concentrations would then have declined below twice pre-Fukushima levels),” it continues. “By then the tracer cloud will span almost the entire North Pacific, with peak concentrations off the North American coast an order-of-magnitude higher than in the western Pacific.”

“The total peak radioactivity levels would then still be about twice the pre-Fukushima values,” the paper’s abstract reveals, discussing what long-term impacts could come to America’s West Coast.

VLADIVOSTOK,  (RIA Novosti)

A group of Russia’s Pacific Fleet warships has arrived at the U.S. Pearl Harbor naval base to take part in the Rim of the Pacific international drills, a fleet spokesman said on Saturday.

“During their long voyage from Vladivostok to Pearl Harbor, the warships’ crews held several firing drills, successfully destroying all the targets,” First-Rank Captain Roman Martov said.

The naval task group comprising the Admiral Panteleyev destroyer, the tanker Boris Butoma and the Fotiy Krylov salvage tug sailed off Vladivostok in the Russian Far East on June 13 to head for the U.S. Hawaiian Islands where the RIMPAC-2012 large-scale international naval exercises will be held.

The active phase of the drills will take place from July 11 through August 2 to involve 45 warships and support vessels from 22 countries, and also 100 combat aircraft and over 20,000 marines.

The Russian navy sailors will for the first time take part in the international naval maneuvers that have been held since 1971.

The Russian Navy

The drills will simulate dozens of combat missions and exercises, including marines’ interaction in humanitarian, search and rescue operations. The exercises will also practice the evacuation of civilians in an amphibious landing operation, and also joint anti-submarine, anti-aircraft and anti-ship defense.

“The drills program also envisages combat firing, using torpedoes and missiles. Russian sailors will have to accomplish missions to put up a naval blockade, ensure the freedom of sailing, fight piracy, arms and drugs smuggling,” Martov said.

The RIMPAC drills were held for the first time in 1971 on the U.S. initiative and involved the navies of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

Today the RIMPAC drills aim to practice the Pacific Rim navies and raise their readiness for operations to fight piracy, terrorism, and also carry out humanitarian missions in case of natural and man-made disasters.

Typhoon Guchol – which takes its name from the Micronesian word for the plant turmeric – struck land south of Osaka shortly after 5 pm on Tuesday and travelled north along the island of Honshu at a speed of 40 mph before merging into the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday morning.

The weather system recorded winds gusting up to 110 mph, the equivalent force of a category 3 hurricane, but it has weakened since making landfall, The Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The typhoon was accompanied by torrential rainfall. The town of Kitaibaraki, north of Tokyo, recorded 2.2 inches of rain an hour early Wednesday.

Authorities ordered more than 150,000 people in the path of the storm to evacuate homes that were considered at risk of high waves, storm surges or landslides.

Some 10,400 people living in the town of Ishinomaki – devastated by the tsunami triggered by last year’s Great East Japan Earthquake – were among those told to evacuate as the typhoon coincided with a high tide.

Back to Back Powerful Earthquakes strike Oregon and Alaska

A shallow 5.1 magnitude earthquake rattled the ocean floor off the coast of Oregon. The depth of the earthquake was 13.5 km (8.4 miles). The epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 239 km (148 miles) W of Bandon, Oregon. The earthquake is the latest in a series of stress eruptions that have been building along the Juan de Fuca and Pacific tectonic plates of the U.S. West Pacific coast. There was no tsunami threat issued with today’s earthquake. SOURCE

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 has occurred in a remote region of Alaska.
The Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says the temblor was centered about 90 miles northwest of Attu Island in the Aleutian Islands. It occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday.  The center says no tsunami is expected. SOURCE
