Hezbollah MP Walid Sakariya told Lebanese television this week that the nuclear weapon Iran is allegedly developing is intended to annihilate Israel.

In a segment recorded and translated by MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute), Sakariya, also a retired general, told his interviewer on Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV Tuesday that should Iran acquire a nuclear weapon it would serve Syrian as well as Iranian interests, namely the eradication of the Jewish state.

“This nuclear weapon is intended to create a balance of terror with Israel, to finish off the Zionist enterprise, and to end all Israeli aggression against the Arab nation,” Sakariya said.

“The entire equation in the Middle East will change,” he asserted.

Iranian officials typically assert that their controversial nuclear program is meant solely for peaceful purposes.

Hamas’s Al Aqsa TV has aired sermons by an Egyptian cleric in which he says that people he meets everywhere “thirst for the blood of the Jews.” The video was monitored and translated by MEMRI.

The sermons by cleric Sallah Sultan, who founded the Ohio-based American Center for Islamic Research, were aired on July 27 and August 3.

“I travel all over the world,” he says, “and I met supporters of Al-Aqsa, of the prisoners, of Jerusalem, and of Palestine – people who thirst for the blood of the Jews, and who are eager for the promised war against the sons of Zion, until Palestine is liberated in its entirety.”

Sultan goes on to say that “Under the previous [Egyptian] regime over 30,000 Zionists entered Egypt every month, defiling its land. The Egyptian police were forced to protect them, while they were getting drunk and picking fights.”

“There was a great scandal, when [alleged Israeli spy] Misrati and some Jews entered Egypt, in order to commit all kinds of crimes here: counterfeit dollars, takingphotographs of military bases, girls with AIDS seducing young Egyptians in order to infect them, and the vilest act of all – for the price of one Egyptian pound Misrati and his gang would seduce young Egyptian boys from Cairo, Alexandria and Upper Egypt. They took young children who did not know any better and sodomized them.”

In 2010, Sultan accused Zionists of making Pesach matzas from the blood of Christian children. In 2011, he declared that a 1994 edict that called for the murder of “every Zionist who enters Egypt – tourist or not” would be renewed.

Group advocating global Islamic caliphate to hold meet in Chicago area

An international organization that advocates jihad to re-establish a global Islamic caliphate will hold a conference Sunday in the Chicago area. The announcement of the event by Hizb Al-Tahrir, a branch of Hizb Al-Tahrir Al-Islami, attracted the attention of the American media and raised concerns about the group’s ideological campaign in the US, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.

The conference, entitled “Revolution: Liberation by Revelation — Muslims Marching Toward Victory,” is expected to focus heavily on recent events in Syria, however participants will also discuss what forms of government are desirable for Muslims: Islamic state, secular state, or democracy.

Hizb Al-Tahrir’s international network is well organized, reports the media watchdog, and has a strong presence in non-Islamic countries such as the UK, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, Australia, and the US. According to Hizb Al-Tahrir America, only Islamic law will protect Muslims, even in countries where non-Muslims are in the majority. The organization also holds the view that a Muslim country becomes Dar al-Kufr, or a Land of Infidels, by joining the United Nations.

In line with its advocacy of radical political change for the establishment of an Islamic caliphate, Hizb Al-Tahrir’s branch in Bangladesh this year urged Bangladeshi military officers to overthrow the country’s secular government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and accused her of “collaboration in the War against Islam by America,” reported MEMRI. Hizb Al-Tahrir’s Pakistani branch issued an open letter in February of 2011 urging the Pakistan Army to establish an Islamic caliphate in the country.

According to MEMRI, Hizb Al-Tahrir America hopes that the downfall of autocratic regimes in Arab countries will usher in an era of Islamic government. A location for the conference has yet to be announced, after organizers decided to move the event from its originally planned venue. A message on Hizb Al-Tahrir America’s website said the new location would be announced “closer to the date of the conference and will be in the Chicagoland area.” The website also noted that the event would be broadcast live, presumably as a webcast.
